Day 3: Reedville to Point Lookout

After initially planning to spend today seeing whatever attractions a guano based town could offer, we changed the plan this morning and decided to try and halve the remaining distance to Solomon’s Island, our primary objective. We knew we would have to take all the way, but I think we were both a little surprised that it took as long as it did. Winds of up to 23 knots called for plenty of reef in the sails, but we still managed to bury the lee rail more often than we would have preferred.

After banging around most of the day, eating little but a couple of boiled eggs and some jerky, we finally reached the shelter of Cornfield Harbor, just inside Point Lookout, at the mouth of the Potomac River. We’ve got the boat pretty well squared away and are looking forward to some rice and lentils before crawling into bed. Weather permitting; we should be able to reach Solomon’s Island tomorrow.

Please note the similarity between the picture of Dad above, and that of Mike taken on September 11 - Like father, like son.
