Two Thermostats and a Bag of Catnip to Go

Pensacola has two authorized Yanmar dealers, one of which is Bell Marine Services, Inc. I stopped by there today to pick up some spares for Alana’s engine (thermostats, impellers, etc.) and was again amazed by the joint. This ramshackle business is like no other that I have ever seen. Cats roam freely through the place, there is cat food on sills and counters, and the whole place smells like a litterbox. I really can’t believe that this is Yanmar’s area dealer! The tiny facility is stuffed with a phenomenal collection of new and salvaged parts, so many in fact, that there is barely room for the proprietors to maneuver between the sagging shelves overflowing with parts and manuals. Don’t get me wrong, they got my needed parts in record time, they just went about it in a unique way. They don’t take debit or credit cards of any sort, just cash or checks, and there is no cash register. Today’s transaction took quite a bit longer than it might have simply because the lady behind the window could not locate a calculator to tabulate my final bill. Had I been more pressed for time I might have seen it differently, but as time was not an issue, I found it refreshing to deal with this relic of a business. Modern business practices have apparently passed them by and they simple don’t seem to care. Are you listening West Marine?
